Cadet WO2 Anson Chan
170 St James RCACS
Cadet WO2 Chan attends Fort Richmond Collegiate and plans to continue his studies at the University of Manitoba in the Faculty of Science. His ultimate objective is to become a dentist.
He is fluent in English and Cantonese.
Cadet Chan has attended several Cadet training programs including Basic Aviation, Advanced Aviation, and the Glider Pilot Scholarship Course. Additionally he was on the squadron marksmanship team. He was selected to attend the 2017 International Air Cadet Exchange to the United Kingdom.
He volunteers at the Victoria General Hospital on weekends. He is normally assigned a number of tasks to support the staff and patients. These consist of things such as delivering newspapers and lab results.
He has also volunteered at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre, which is a seniors' home. The duties normally consist of assisting residents and staff within the facility. On some occasions he has served as an accompanist for a singer.
He is also active with the school's Amnesty International Club that does charity work such as bake sales and other fund raising events.
170 St. James Squadron has more than 130 Cadets, and he is the Squadron Commander. He is personally in-charge of 60 Cadets and ensures their standards of drill, dress and deportment are up to standard. He teaches classes in aviation and shares his personal experiences.
He has played on the school volleyball team and is currently a member of the badminton team. His fitness was further confirmed when he achieved the Excellence rating in the Cadet Fitness Assessment.
Janice and Honorary Colonel Barry Rempel are the sponsors of this award. They were not available for the Presentations evening. The award was presented on their behalf by a serving officer in the RCAF.
