Cadet CPO1 Thierney Dignadice will be pursuing a Bachelor of Music Degree on Classical Clarinet at the University of Manitoba with a long-term goal of performing in larger professional ensembles such as classical or theatrical orchestras. She also hopes to advocate for, and improve, diversity and inclusion in these fields.
She joined Cadets in 2016 attending regular training nights and weekend training receiving an attendance award in her first year. She attended HMCS Quadra for two years and Intermediate Sail and received Cadet of the Week. She sailed at the Provincial Qualifying Regatta in Calgary and is a member of the LWCNS Sail Staff. She has received certification as an Assistant Race Officer and taken the Fundamental Course for sail instruction. Joining the Corps’ band as a clarinet player, she took over as Drum Major in 2018. At the end of the 20-21 training year, she was awarded the Lord Strathcona Medal. Her various leadership roles in the Corps lead to her being named Corps Coxswain.
She has volunteered at Notre Dame Church and was a server at Selkirk’s Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. She has also volunteered at St Francis Place, played holiday music for the residents of Tudor Personal Care Home and donated to the Gaynor Family Regional Library. In 2021 she represented her school and community at the national Poetry in Voice competition, placing first in the English stream.
She has consistently achieved the Gold Level of Excellence Fitness Standard. She played soccer for five years with the Tri-S Soccer association and in Selkirk’s recreational league. She has participated in track and field in Junior and Senior High and competed at the Junior High Provincial Outdoor Track Meet in 2017/18. In 2020 her High School relay team placed third in the High School Provincial Indoor Track Meet.
