2022 Flight Sergeant Fred Marean Award Recipient

Cadet WO2 Oluwafifunmi Eso
199 St Vital RCACS

Cadet WO2 Oluwafifunmi Eso will be attending the University of Alberta to study neuroscience as a major for her undergraduate degree. She is looking forward to intellectually exploring the biological aspects of science that excite her and collaborating with like-minded individuals on research projects. Her long-term goal is to of become a scientist and an author.

She, as a WO2, was the acting B Squadron Commander. She has attended HMCS Quadra and CTC(v) for Music Training, and was a Staff Instructor for CTC(v). She was awarded the Sponsoring Committee Participation Award and the Air cadet Service Award in 2021. She represented her Squadron as a Model United Nations Delegate in 2021 and 2022. Throughout her Cadet years, working up through the ranks taught her the importance of teamwork, dedication, and collaborating with others who have different opinions.

She has been an active volunteer in retirement homes for the past four years and spent some of her time during COVID quarantine playing music and reading stories to the residents of Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence. She volunteers with the St. Amant Foundation by participating in online activities geared towards inclusivity for individuals with autism living in her community. She has been a peer tutor for four years, and is a tutor with the Frontier College Program helping younger children with literacy and math skills. Through going to Remembrance Day Services with her Squadron she was able to build a connection with her community and continually explored that connection outside her Cadet Squadron through various organizations.

She has achieved the Excellence Fitness Badge and the Bronze Level Duke of Edinburgh Award and is working towards the Silver Level Duke of Edinburgh Award. She maintains her healthy lifestyle through meditation and journaling and has participated in track and field and basketball.

Cadet Eso is currently attending the University of Alberta and was not available for the Presentation evening, so her award was presented on August 22, 2022.
