Cadet CWO Janelle Poirier is completing her first year of a four-year Bachelor’s Degree at the Université de Saint Boniface in her first language and is very passionate about the preservation of the French language. She hopes to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and teach in the Division Scolaire Franco-Manitobaine. As a Métis person, she finds that the Université de Saint Boniface is a safe and welcoming place for members of the indigenous community.

She completed her General Training in Vernon and then attended Air Rifle Marksmanship and Air Rifle Instructor Training and was a Staff Cadet. She achieved the Green and Red Stars of Excellence. From 2016 to 2019 she achieved Excellence in Band and was a Distinguished Marksman from 2016-2021 and was awarded the Malczynski Award for Top Shot at Vernon CTC. She achieved the National Star of Excellence and received the Six Year Long Service Medal. She completed her Standard First Aid Training and Year 5 Workshops. She has participated in the Silver and Gold Star Expeditions in and completed Cadet Correspondent Training. As her Corps’ Regimental Sergeant Major, she led most training evenings, coordinating lessons and activities throughout the night.

She has participated in many volunteer opportunities with local non-profit organizations, including multiple food drives and local festivals, as well as volunteering extensively at the Otterburne Curling Club. She strives to set a good personal example for all those around her.

She obtained Excellence in Physical Fitness in 2020-21 and maintains her fitness level through regular hiking and camping and the expeditions she participated in.
