Cadet Sgt Yeongyun (Elena) Shin

Cadet Sgt Yeongyun (Elena) Shin will attend the University of Manitoba with her dream of becoming a Prosthodontist. After earning a Doctor of Dental Medicine, she plans to continue her studies for an MSc. in Prosthodontics or serve as a licensed Dental Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces.

She was her Squadron's Top Effective Speaker, representing Manitoba at the Air Cadet League of Canada National Competition for Effective Speaking. She has achieved or been awarded Top Effective Speaking Award, The Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence, Excellence in the Cadet Fitness Assessment and completed the Merit Interview for the Power Pilot Training. She also took part in the Provincial Marksmanship Competition.

She volunteers with Manitoba Women for Women of South Sudan, ToyBox Manitoba, was team captain and mentor for her school Envirothon Club and represented Manitoba in Ohio and New Brunswick. She participated in the Climate Science Olympiad semi-finals and attended a Global Food Security Summit. She reads morning announcements at school in French, volunteers at the Korean Pavilion Folklorama, and participates in the school ethics club.

As a leader she sets an exemplary standard in teaching and consistently acts as a role model through dress, deportment, and improving as a Cadet herself, because enthusiasm and professionalism are contagious.

She plays badminton, varsity curling, won the West Winnipeg Athlete Conference Scholar Athlete Award with the highest grade average of 99%. She also participates in volleyball, lifts weights and likes to run. Her physical fitness is demonstrated with her excellence in the Cadet Fitness Assessment.
